Application 1: 
Design of foundations resting on, in or near sloping ground.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A] that are required to be designed to the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that the design of foundations on, in or near sloping ground will not take into account the likelihoood of slope movements, which could lead to:
  • excessive soil forces or displacement of the foundation, which could lead to damage to the building, and
  • excessive displacement of the foundation, which could lead to excessive distortion of the building, which could impede the intended use and occupancy of the building.
