Application 1: 
Control of loss of ground due to water or any other cause, at all phases of excavation and construction.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A] that are required to be designed to the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that loss of ground behind excavations will occur due to water flow or any other cause, such as densification of loose cohesionless soils, which could lead to excessive displacement of ground, which could lead to damage to adjacent buildings.
