Application
Application 1:
Installation of materials to provide protection against precipitation ingress in sloped or horizontal assemblies that are exposed to precipitation, where such installation is within the application of the standards listed.
This applies to building materials, components or assemblies and their interfaces described in Sentence 5.1.2.1.(1) that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
Exceptions:
except as stated in Sentence 5.6.1.1.(2), which applies where a lack of control of precipitation ingress will not adversely affect health, safety, the intended use of the building or the operation of building services.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the performance of the installed material, with respect to protection against precipitation ingress, will fall significantly below expectations, which could lead to precipitation ingress.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • the inadequate structural strength and integrity of the installation, which could lead to falling components, or
  • deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the separators or of elements supported or protected by the separators.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
