Application
Application 1:
Materials, components, assemblies, joints in materials, and junctions between components or assemblies that are:
  • exposed to precipitation, and
  • installed to provide protection against precipitation ingress in assemblies.
This applies to building materials, components, assemblies and their interfaces described in Sentence 5.1.2.1.(1) that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
Application 2:
This also applies to cladding assemblies installed on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] where:
  • the cladding assembly is not addressed in Section 9.27., or
  • the cladding assembly does not comply with the prescriptive requirements of Section 9.27.
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 5.6.1.1.(2), which applies where a lack of control of precipitation ingress will not adversely affect health, safety, the intended use of the building or the operation of building services, and
  • Sentence 5.6.2.1.(2), which applies where a lack of sealing and drainage will not adversely affect health, safety, the intended use of the building or the operation of building services.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability of:
  • the inadequate control of precipitation ingress, or
  • the inadequate provision for dissipation of precipitation that does enter an assembly, which could lead to ingress or accumulation of water.
This is to limit the probability of deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the separators or of elements supported or protected by the separators, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
