Application
Application 1: 
Installation, including provisions for mounting, clearances and air supply, of heating and air-conditioning equipment, including mechanical refrigeration equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:
  • heating systems, including requirements for combustion air, and air-conditioning systems other than those serving individual dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.33.1.1.(2), and
  • air duct distribution systems serving heating systems in which the rated heat input exceeds 120 kW, as stated in Sentence 9.33.6.1.(2).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Article 6.2.1.5., which applies to fireplaces, and
  • Article 6.2.1.6., which applies to heat recovery ventilators of smaller capacity.
Application 3: 
This also applies to the venting of oil-, gas- and solid-fuel-burning appliances, as stated in Sentence 6.3.1.1.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that the inappropriate installation of heating, air-conditioning or refrigeration equipment will lead to performance that falls significantly below expectations, which could lead to fire hazards [e.g. the release of flammable gases in buildings], which could lead to fire, which could lead to harm to persons.
