Application
Application 1: 
Exhaust ducts, in ventilating systems, serving rooms containing residential cooking equipment, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], with respect to:
  • air duct systems for mechanical ventilating systems other than self-contained systems serving single dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.2.(2), and
  • the ventilation of all occupancies other than residential occupancies, as stated in Sentence 9.32.1.1.(2).
Exceptions: 
except for:
  • self-contained systems serving individual dwelling units, and
  • as stated in Sentence 6.2.3.8.(10), which applies where the connections are made at the inlet of an exhaust fan, and all interconnected systems are equipped with suitable back pressure devices to prevent the passage of odours from one system to another when the fan is not in operation.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that exhaust air containing grease or moisture will transfer to other parts of the building, which could lead to the contamination of other spaces, which could lead to negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces, which could lead to harm to persons.
