Application 1: 
Minimum width of exit facilities, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • for exits that serve not more than one dwelling unit and access to exits within dwelling units, as stated in Sentence 9.9.3.1.(1),
  • as stated in Sentence 9.9.3.3.(1), which applies to corridors,
  • as stated in Article 9.9.6.1. and Article 9.9.6.3., which apply to doors and doorways, and
  • as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.3.(1), which applies to barrier-free design in buildings described in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1) [see Sentence 9.5.2.1.(1)].

Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that exit facilities will be of insufficient width to permit efficient egress in an emergency situation, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
