Application 1: 
Direction of travel to exits from the location where egress doors from dwelling units open onto public corridors or exterior passageways, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • where dwelling units have a second and separate means of egress, and
  • as stated in Sentence 9.9.7.3.(1), which applies where the door opens onto a dead-end corridor that is not more than 6 m long.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that persons will not have access to an alternative egress route in the event one route is blocked or obstructed in an emergency situation, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
