Minimum fire-resistance ratings of floors and roofs, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].

  • the provisions in Table 9.10.8.1. that apply to floors over crawl spaces, other than the crawl spaces described in Sentence 9.10.8.8.(1),
  • Sentence 9.10.8.2.(1), which applies to sprinklered buildings,
  • Sentence 9.10.8.6.(1), which applies to mezzanines that are required to be counted as storeys in Articles 9.10.4.1.and 9.10.4.2.,
  • Sentence 9.10.8.7.(1), which applies to roofs that support an occupancy,
  • Sentence 9.10.8.8.(2), which applies to the floors of exterior passageways serving buildings of Group D, E or F major occupancy that are not more than 2 storeys in building height,
  • Sentence 9.10.8.8.(3), which applies to the floors of exterior passageways serving a single dwelling unit, where no suite is located above or below the dwelling unit,
  • Sentence 9.10.8.10.(1), which applies to dwelling units that have no other dwelling unit above or below, and to dwelling units that are not above or below another major occupancy,

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that floors and roofs exposed to fire will fail or collapse prematurely during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that floors and roofs exposed to fire will fail or collapse prematurely, which could lead to the spread of fire from a lower storey of a building to an upper storey or to the exterior of the building during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to harm to persons.
