Application 1: 
Minimum fire-resistance rating that separate fire separations of suites in residential occupancies from adjacent rooms and suites, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.10.9.14.(2), which applies to certain sleeping rooms in boarding and lodging houses,
  • Sentence 9.10.9.14.(3), which applies to dwelling units that contain 2 or more storeys including basements, and
  • Sentence 9.10.21.2.(1), which applies to the separation of sleeping rooms in construction camps.

To limit the probability that fire will spread from one suite or room to another suite or room, which could lead to damage to the building.
