9.10.13.5.(1)

Application
Application 1: 
Wired glass used as closures in vertical fire separations required to have a fire-resistance rating of not more than 1 h, where the wired glass:
  • conforms to Article 9.7.3.1. [which lists various glass standards],
  • has not been tested in accordance with Article 9.10.3.1. [i.e. not tested in accordance with the test methods described in Part 3, Appendix A-9.10.3.1., or Appendix D],
  • is not less than 6 mm thick, and
  • is mounted in conformance with Sentence 9.10.13.5.(2) [which requires the use of fixed steel frames].
This applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to the protection of openings:
  • near unenclosed exit stairs and ramps, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.4.(1),
  • in exterior walls of exits, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.5.(1), and
  • near exit doors, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.6.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To supersede the requirements of Sentences 9.10.3.1.(1) and 9.13.1.1.(1), which would otherwise require the wired glass to be tested and meet certain minimum fire-protection ratings in accordance with certain standards, if certain conditions are met, on the basis that they [the conditions] provide an acceptable level of protection against the spread of fire.
Intent 2: 
To direct Code users to Sentence 9.7.3.1.(1).
Intent 3: 
To state the application of Sentence 9.10.13.5.(2).
