Application
Application 1: 
Frames for wired glass described in Sentence 9.10.13.5.(1) [wired glass used as closures in vertical fire separations required to have a fire-resistance rating of not more than 1 h], where the wired glass:
  • conforms to Article 9.7.3.1. [which lists various glass standards],
  • has not been tested in accordance with Article 9.10.3.1. [i.e. not tested in accordance with the test methods described in Part 3, Appendix A-9.10.3.1., or Appendix D], and
  • is not less than 6 mm thick.
This applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to the protection of openings:
  • near unenclosed exit stairs and ramps, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.4.(1),
  • in exterior walls of exits, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.5.(1), and
  • near exit doors, as stated in Sentence 9.9.4.6.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that wired glass will be displaced from its mounting under the stresses imposed by a fire, which could lead to the spread of fire through openings in a fire separation, which could lead to harm to persons in the area on the other side of the separation.
