Application 1: 
Self-closing devices installed on doors in fire separations, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 9.10.13.10.(2), which applies to doors between public corridors and suites in business and personal services occupancies, where the corridors are not dead-end corridors.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a door will be left open during a fire, thus allowing fire to spread from one fire compartment to another, which could lead to damage to the building in the other fire compartment.
