Blocking-off [fire stopping] of concealed spaces within wall assemblies, including spaces created by furring, at:
  • each floor level,
  • each ceiling level where the ceiling contributes to part of the required fire-resistance rating, and

This applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions:

  • the width of the concealed wall space does not exceed 25 mm,
  • the exposed construction materials within the space are noncombustible,
  • the exposed construction materials within the space, including insulation, but not including wiring, piping or similar services, have a flame-spread rating of not more than 25, or
  • the concealed wall space is filled with insulation.
