Application
Application 1: 
Maximum surface flame-spread rating of exposed surfaces of interior walls and ceilings, including skylights and glazing, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to certain construction camp corridors, as stated in Sentence 9.10.21.6.(2).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.10.17.1.(2), which applies to doors having a surface flame-spread rating of not more than 200,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.1.(3), which applies to doors within dwelling units, other than garage doors,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.2.(1), which applies to ceilings in exits and unsprinklered ceilings in public corridors,
  • Article 9.10.17.3., which applies to walls in exits and lobbies used as exits,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.4.(1), which applies to exterior exit passageways,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.5.(1), which applies to walls in unsprinklered public corridors,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.7.(1), which applies to interior finish materials on walls and ceilings of public corridors and corridors used by the public that contain an occupancy,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.8.(1), which applies to light diffusers and lenses,
  • Sentence 9.10.17.11.(1), which applies to the interior finish of walls and ceilings in bathrooms within suites of residential occupancy, and
  • Sentence 9.10.17.12.(1), which applies to coverings or linings used with ducts.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that certain finishes having an inappropriately high flame spread property will be used, which could lead to the spread of fire across the exposed surfaces of the finishes, which could lead to harm to persons.
