Application | Application 1: Protection, as described in Sentence 9.10.22.3.(1),
of cabinetry located not less than 450 mm above the level of
the heating elements or burners of gas or electric ranges.
This applies to buildings to which Part
9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of
Part 9].
Exceptions:
except for cabinetry described in Article 9.10.22.2. [framing,
finishes and cabinets] located directly above the location of gas or electric ranges.

Intent | Intent 1: To supersede the requirements of Sentence 9.10.22.3.(1) and
not require a protective covering, if certain conditions are met [minimum
clearance]. This is to limit the probability that heat
radiating from a range or from open fire will ignite the cabinetry, which
could lead to the spread of fire, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: To supersede the requirements stated in CSA B149.1, referred
to in Sentence 9.10.22.1.(1), with regard to natural gas ranges, in cases
of conflict. |
