Application
Application 1: 
Design of concrete footings for foundations for buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where the span of supported joists exceeds 4.9 m, the foundations are not subject to surcharge, and:
  • the footings support
    • foundation walls of masonry, concrete, or flat insulating concrete form walls
    • above-ground walls of masonry, flat insulating concrete form walls or light wood-frame construction, and
    • floors and roofs of light wood-frame construction [see Article 9.4.2.1.], and
  • the specified live load on any floor supported by the footings does not exceed 2.4 kPa.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.15.1.2.(1), which applies to foundations and footings for buildings erected on permafrost, and
  • Sentence 9.15.3.4.(2), which applies to joist spans exceeding 4.9 m in buildings with light wood-frame walls, floors and roofs.

Intent 1: 
To expand the application of Section 4.2. to include Part 9 buildings where the span of supported joists exceeds the application of Table 9.15.3.4. and the criteria of Sentence 9.15.3.4.(2).
