Application 1: 
Minimum depth and maximum diameter for granular material beneath floors supported on ground or on granular fill, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • as stated in Sentence 9.16.2.1.(2), which applies to floors in garages, carports or accessory buildings,
  • for unenclosed spaces, and
  • where floors are waterproofed.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of an inadequate drainage layer beneath floors-on-ground, which could lead to the ingress of moisture from the ground, which could lead to the deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of floors-on-ground or of elements protected by floors on ground, which could lead to harm to persons.
