Application 1: 
Drips for window sills in masonry walls having no flashing installed beneath them, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9]:
  • where the wall height above the foundation wall does not exceed 11 m, and
  • in which the roof or floor system above the first storey is not of concrete construction.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of water running back under window sills or down the face of masonry, which could lead to water ingress.
This is to limit the probability of:
  • the deterioration of masonry due to freeze-thaw stresses, which could lead to masonry falling, or
  • the deterioration of elements inboard of the masonry, which could lead to compromised structural integrity, which could lead to structural collapse.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
