Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that fireplace masonry will be exposed to corrosive gases, high temperatures and thermal shock due to heating and cooling, which could lead to the deterioration of masonry, which could lead to the ignition of combustible building components, which could lead to harm to persons.
