Application
Application 1: 
Separation of lintel members by filler pieces, in loadbearing walls, in wood-frame constructions to which Section 9.23. applies [see Sentence 9.23.1.1.(1) for application of Section 9.23.], where supported loads bear equally on both lintel members.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To clarify that lintel members need not be in contact with each other: spacing members to match the wall width will facilitate the fastening of cladding, sheathing and interior finishes.
