Application
Application 1: 
Sheathing membranes installed in cladding assemblies to which Subsection 9.27.3. applies [see Article 9.27.1.1. for application of Subsection 9.27.3.], where the cladding provides the required protection against air infiltration and precipitation ingress.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.27.2.2.(4), which applies to exterior walls that enclose spaces of residential occupancy or spaces that directly serve spaces of residential occupancy,
  • Clause 9.27.2.2.(5)(a), which applies to cladding assemblies where the number of degree-days is less than 3400 and the moisture index is greater than 0.90, or
  • Clause 9.27.2.2.(5)(b), which applies to cladding assemblies where the number of degree-days is 3400 or more, and the moisture index is greater than 1.00.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the application of Sentence 9.27.3.3.(1), in constructions where the cladding provides the required protection against air infiltration and precipitation ingress, and where:
  • the building occupants do not necessarily expect more durable building assemblies, or
  • the building is not subject to particularly high exterior moisture loads.
Intent 2: 
To state the application of Sentence 9.27.3.6.(2) and (3).
