Application
Application 1: 
Slopes on which roof coverings may be applied on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.26.3.1.(2), which applies to asphalt and gravel roofing, and coal tar and gravel roofing provided with effective drainage by roof drains located at the lowest points on the roofs or constructions that serve as roofs, and
  • Sentence 9.26.3.1.(3), which applies to profiled metal roof cladding systems specifically designed for low-slope applications.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of:
  • for minimum slope requirements, an insufficient slope of the roof or construction that serves as a roof, which could lead to inadequate drainage or water pooling, which could lead to:
    • water accumulation, which could lead to damage to roofing material, which could lead to the deterioration of roofing, or
    • water ingress at roofing joints, and
  • for maximum slope requirements, an excessive slope of the roof or construction that serves as a roof, which could lead to damage to roofing membranes from gravity-induced loads, which could lead to:
    • compromised moisture protection, or
    • accelerated deterioration.
This is to limit the probability of the premature failure of roofing, which could lead to precipitation or meltwater ingress, which could lead to further deterioration, which could lead to the structural failure of roofs or assemblies protected by roofs, which could lead to harm to persons.
