Cant strips at the intersections of built-up roofs with walls, including walls of chimneys, clad with a material other than masonry, on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of cracking or tearing of built-up roof membranes (when returned up walls at a sharp angle) due to their shrinking or pulling away from the substrate, or movement of the structure.
This is to limit the probability of precipitation or meltwater ingress, which could lead to the structural failure of roofs or walls, or elements protected by such assemblies, which could lead to harm to persons.
