Application 1: 
Caulking [required by Article 9.27.4.1.], for buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9]:
  • between masonry, siding or stucco and adjacent doors and window frames or trim, including sills, unless such locations are otherwise completely protected from the entry of rain,
  • at vertical joints between different cladding materials, unless such joints are suitably lapped or flashed to prevent the entry of rain, and
  • as otherwise required to prevent the entry of water into the structure.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that the performance of caulking materials will fall significantly below expectations, which could lead to the premature failure of caulked joints, which could lead to precipitation or meltwater ingress, which could lead to deterioration, which could lead to the structural failure of exterior walls or elements protected by exterior walls, which could lead to harm to persons.
