Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability of an inability to effectively shed water, which could lead to water draining down the face of walls and returning up under shingles due to surface tension or wind loads, which could lead to:
  • corrosion of nails, which could lead to a loss of support and displacement of shingles, or
  • precipitation or meltwater ingress past the cladding assembly.
This is to limit the probability of deterioration, which could lead to the structural failure of exterior walls or elements protected by exterior walls, which could lead to harm to persons.
