ObjectiveOS1 Fire Safety
Attribution
[F20,F22,F80-OS1.2] Applies where interior finishes are required to act as fire protection for foamed plastics or to contribute to the required fire resistance of assemblies.
Application
Application 1: 
Insulating fibreboard interior wall and ceiling finishes, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to the protection of foamed plastics that form part of a wall or ceiling assembly in combustible construction:
  • in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Clause 9.10.17.10.(1)(a), and
  • in buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3] that are permitted to be of combustible construction, as stated in Clause 3.1.4.2.(1)(a).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that the performance of insulating fibreboard as an interior finish will fall significantly below expectations, which could lead to an inability to resist expected impact, gravity or lateral loads.
This is to limit the probability of the deformation or detachment of interior finishes, which could lead to:
  • where interior finishes are required to protect foamed plastics, a loss of fire protection, or
  • where interior finishes are installed to contribute to the required fire resistance of assemblies, a loss of fire resistance.
This is to limit the probability of the growth and spread of fire, which could lead to harm to persons.
