Application
Application 1: 
Interruption of combustible coverings and linings of ducts, including associated adhesives and insulation, at the immediate area of operation of heat sources, in air duct distribution systems serving heating systems in which the rated heat input does not exceed 120 kW and serving only one dwelling unit, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to ventilation ducts and their fittings, as stated in Sentence 9.32.3.11.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of:
  • combustible coverings and linings of ducts, adhesives and insulation being exposed to elevated temperatures, which could lead to fire, or
  • combustible material that has ignited contributing to the spread of fire from one fire compartment to another.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
