Application 1: 
Sealing of joints in ducts passing through unheated spaces, in air duct distribution systems serving heating systems in which the rated heat input does not exceed 120 kW and serving only one dwelling unit, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2: 
This also applies to ventilation ducts and their fittings, as stated in Sentence 9.32.3.11.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of the escape of water vapour from ducts, which could lead to such vapour condensing and freezing on duct surfaces or within insulation, which could lead to the wetting of building elements, which could lead to corrosion, rotting or mould and mildew growth, which could lead to deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity, which could lead to harm to persons.
