4.1.3.5.(3)
OP2
ObjectiveOP2 Structural Sufficiency of the Building
Attribution
Application
Application 1:
Maximum total drift per storey under service wind and gravity loads.
Exceptions:
except:
  • as stated in Sentence 4.1.3.5.(4), which applies to industrial buildings and sheds where greater drift will not adversely affect the safety of persons nor cause damage to non-structural building elements, and
  • where other drift limits are specified in the material design standards referenced in Section 4.3.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that wind and gravity loads will lead to the excessive lateral deflection of the building structure between storeys (storey drift), which could lead to damage to the building.
