Application
Application 1:
Element or component factor, Cp, to be used in calculating the lateral force in Sentence 4.1.8.17.(1) for the design of elements and components of buildings and their anchorage for earthquake.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Part 4.
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 4.1.8.1.(1), which applies to areas where the spectral response acceleration amplified for site conditions equals the floor levels found in low seismicity regions with Site Class C (i.e. very dense soil and soft rock ),
  • Sentence 4.1.8.17.(2), which applies to the following elements of non-post-disaster buildings in areas where IEFaSa(0.2) is less than 0.35:
    • horizontally cantilevered floors, balconies, beams, etc.
    • suspended ceilings, light fixtures and other attachments to ceilings with independent vertical support
    • masonry veneer connections
    • access floors
    • masonry or concrete fences over 1.8 m tall
    • machinery, fixtures, equipment, ducts, and tanks (including contents)
    • flat bottom tanks (including contents) attached directly to a floor at or below grade within a building
    • pipes, ducts, cable trays (including contents)
    • electrical cable trays, bus ducts, conduit,
    • rigid components, and
    • flexible components, and
  • Sentence 4.1.8.15.(1), which applies to diaphragms and their connections where the force Fx assigned to that level according to Sentence 4.1.8.11.(6) is greater than the force Vp of Sentence 4.1.8.17.(1).

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the lateral seismic force used in the design of anchorage for an element or component will not take into account the risk associated with the failure of the element or component, which could lead to failure of the anchorage, which could lead to elements of the building falling or sliding, which could lead to harm to persons.
