Application | Application 1: Air leakage characteristic of materials installed
to provide the principal resistance to air leakage in building components
and assemblies. This applies to building materials,
components, assemblies and their interfaces described in Sentence 5.1.2.1.(1) that
are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies
[see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
Exceptions:
except as stated in Sentences 5.4.1.1.(3) and 5.4.1.2.(2), which apply where an inadequate control
of air leakage or the installation of materials with an air leakage characteristic
greater than 0.02 L/(s • m2), measured at an air pressure
difference of 75 Pa, will not adversely affect health, safety,
the intended use of the building or the operation
of building services.

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that the airtightness of the installed
materials will be inadequate for the control of:
This is to limit the probability of deterioration,
which could lead to compromised structural integrity of environmental separators
or of elements supported or protected by the separators, which could lead
to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
