5.8.2.2.(2)
OS2OH1
ObjectiveOS2 Structural Safety
Attribution
Application
Application 1:
Materials and components installed to provide resistance to moisture transfer from the ground into or through building assemblies, and through interfaces between assemblies.
This applies to building materials, components or assemblies and their interfaces described in Sentence 5.1.2.1.(1) that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 5.8.2.1.(2), which applies where a lack of resistance to moisture transfer from the ground will not adversely affect health, safety, the intended use of the building or the operation of building services,
  • Sentence 5.8.2.2.(3), which applies where continuity of protection over construction, control or expansion joints is otherwise provided by the design of the joints, and
  • Sentence 5.8.2.2.(7), which applies to assemblies that:
    • are constructed of cast-in-place concrete,
    • have a drainage layer installed between the assembly and the soil to reduce moisture loading, and
    • are not exposed to hydrostatic pressure.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability of materials not being capable of bridging joints, which could lead to discontinuity of protection at joints, which could lead to moisture ingress from the ground, which could lead to deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the separators or of elements supported or protected by the separators, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
