Application
Application 1: 
Width of pedestrian ramps within dwelling units and of exterior ramps serving a single dwelling unit, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except:
  • for exterior ramps serving a single dwelling unit that are required exit ramps, and
  • as stated in Sentence 9.8.5.1.(2), which applies to pedestrian ramps in barrier-free paths of travel.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that ramps of insufficient width, in dwelling units where the number of occupants is limited, will lead to:
  • persons colliding or falling, or
  • persons colliding or falling in an emergency, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
