Application 1: 
Clear height over interior and exterior pedestrian ramps, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 9.8.5.1.(2), which applies to pedestrian ramps in barrier-free paths of travel.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of:
  • insufficient clear height over ramps within dwelling units where occupants are likely to be intimately familiar with their surroundings, or
  • insufficient clear height over ramps within other than dwelling units where occupants might not be familiar with their surroundings.
This is to limit the probability of users accidentally contacting the ceiling with their head, which could lead to:
  • persons falling, or
  • persons falling in an emergency, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
