Application
Application 1: 
Minimum clear height in exits and access to exits, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Article 9.8.2.2. and Article 9.8.6.4., which apply to stairways and landings,
  • Sentence 9.9.3.1.(1), which applies to means of egress, except exits that serve not more than one dwelling unit and access to exits within dwelling units,
  • Sentence 9.9.3.4.(2), which applies to storage garages,
  • Sentence 9.9.6.2.(2), which permits a reduction in headroom clearance under door closers and other devices, and
  • Sentence 9.9.6.2.(1), which applies to the minimum clear opening height of certain doorways.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of persons contacting or colliding with items at ceiling level, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that exits and access to exits will have an insufficient ceiling height to permit efficient egress in an emergency situation, which could lead to delays in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
