Application 1: 
Mezzanines, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.10.4.1.(2), which applies to mezzanines where
    • the aggregate area of mezzanines that are not superimposed does not exceed 40% of the open area of the room in which they are located, and
    • the space above the mezzanine floor is used as an open area without partitions or subdividing walls higher than 1 070 mm above the mezzanine floor,
  • Sentence 9.10.9.2.(2), which applies to platforms intended solely for periodic inspection and maintenance that are not used for storage and are constructed with noncombustible materials, and
  • Sentence 9.10.4.2.(1), which applies to mezzanines that are superimposed above another mezzanine in the storey.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt mezzanines from the calculation of building height, if certain conditions are met that limit the size of mezzanines, on the basis that this configuration does not pose an undue fire safety risk to persons.
