Application | Application 1: Fire separations separating repair garages from other occupancies,
in single-storey buildings where
the building is operated as a single suite and
the only other occupancy is a mercantile
occupancy. This applies to buildings to
which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application
of Part 9].
Exceptions:
except as stated in Sentence 9.10.9.17.(2), which applies to
ancillary spaces directly serving repair garages,
including waiting rooms, reception rooms, tool and parts storage areas and
supervisory office space.
Application 2: This also applies to fire separations between
ancillary spaces directly serving repair garages,
including waiting rooms, reception rooms, tool and parts storage areas and
supervisory office space, and other occupancies,
as stated in Sentence 9.10.9.17.(2). |

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that fire will spread from a repair
garage to other parts of the building, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: To supersede the requirements of Sentences 9.10.9.17.(1) and (2) regarding
fire separations, in cases where the building configuration and tenancy require
shorter notification and evacuation times. |
