Objective	OP3 Protection of Adjacent Buildings from Fire
Attribution	[F03-OP3.1]
Application	Application 1: Calculation of limiting distance, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where: there is no fire department, or the fire department is not organized, trained and equipped to meet the needs of the community, and the building is not sprinklered. Exceptions: except: as stated in Sentence 9.10.15.1.(1), which applies to buildings that contain only dwelling units and have no dwelling unit above another dwelling unit, and where applying Sentence 9.10.14.4.(2), which applies to openings in walls having a limiting distance of less than 1.2 m Sentence 9.10.14.4.(5), which applies to storage garages where all storeys are constructed as open-air storeys and the limiting distance is not less than 3 m Sentence 9.10.14.4.(6), which applies to an exposing building face of a storey that faces a street, is at the same level as the street, and where the limiting distance is not less than 9 m, and Sentence 9.10.14.5.(6), which applies to heavy timber and steel columns, where the limiting distance is not less than 3 m.

Intent	Intent 1: To supersede the requirements of Sentence 9.10.14.4.(1), Sentence 9.10.14.5.(1), (3) and (7), which require certain limiting distances, and require a greater limiting distance if certain conditions are not met. This is to limit the probability that fire will spread from the subject building to an adjacent building during the time required for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to damage to the adjacent building.
