Application | Application 1: Calculation of limiting distance,
in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that contain only dwelling units and have no dwelling
unit above another dwelling unit, where:
Exceptions:
except as stated in Sentence 9.10.14.5.(6) and Sentence 9.10.15.5.(6),
which apply to heavy timber and steel columns.

Intent | Intent 1: To supersede the requirements of Sentence 9.10.15.4.(1) and 9.10.15.5.(1), (2), (3) and (5), which require certain limiting distances, and require a greater
limiting distance if certain conditions are not met. This
is to limit the probability that fire will spread from the subject building
to an adjacent building during the time required for emergency responders
to perform their duties, which could lead to damage to the adjacent building.
