Application 1: 
Minimum width of concrete strip footings for interior non-loadbearing masonry walls, for foundations for buildings to which Section 9.15. applies [see Sentence 9.15.1.1.(1) for application of Section 9.15.].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.15.1.2.(1), which applies to foundations and footings for buildings erected on permafrost, and
  • Sentence 9.15.3.4.(3), which applies to foundations resting on gravel, sand or silt in which the water table level is located less than the width of the footings below the bearing surface.

Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of insufficiently wide strip footings, which could lead to compressive failure and excessive settlement of underlying soil, which could lead to the collapse of interior non-loadbearing masonry walls, which could lead to harm to persons.
