Application
Application 1: 
In buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9]:
  • masonry elements not in contact with the ground, where:
    • the masonry is designed for specified loads on the basis of ultimate and serviceability limit states
    • the wall height above the foundation wall of unreinforced masonry or masonry veneer exceeds 11 m, or
    • the roof or floor assembly above the first storey of unreinforced masonry buildings and buildings with masonry veneer is of concrete construction, and
  • insulating concrete form walls not in contact with the ground, where:
    • the walls are designed for specified loads on the basis of ultimate and serviceability limit states,
    • the floor-to-floor height is greater than 3 m,
    • the buildings are more than 2 storeys in building height,
    • the buildings contain other than a single dwelling unit, or
    • the buildings are erected in locations where the seismic spectral response acceleration, Sa(0.2), is greater than 0.4.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To expand the application of Subsection 4.3.2. to include above-ground masonry construction and insulating concrete form walls not in contact with the ground that are not addressed in Section 9.20.
