Application
Application 1: 
Connection of multiple fuel-burning appliances, having a combined total rated heat output of 120 kW or less, to chimney flues for rectangular chimneys of brick masonry or concrete that are not more than 12 m in height, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where:
  • sufficient draft is provided for all connected fuel-burning appliances to operate simultaneously,
  • solid-fuel-burning appliances are connected below connections for appliances burning other fuels, and
  • connected fuel-burning appliances are located on the same storey.
Application 2: 
This also applies to rectangular masonry or concrete chimneys, in buildings to which Part 6 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 6], as stated in Sentence 6.3.1.2.(1).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 9.21.2.1.(1), which applies to fireplaces and incinerators.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that combustion products will spill from one or more appliances into living space, which could lead to negative effects on the air quality of indoor spaces, which could lead to harm to persons.
Intent 2: 
To exempt constructions from the application of Sentence 9.21.2.1.(1), where an adequate draft is maintained for each appliance and the installation of flue pipes conforms to Sentences 9.21.2.2.(2) and (3).
