Application
Application 1: 
Bracing for rectangular masonry or concrete chimneys that are not more than 12 m in height and serve fireplaces or appliances having a combined total rated heat output of 120 kW or less, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 9.21.4.5.(2), which applies to chimneys:
  • with no horizontal outside dimension less than 400 mm, and
  • that extend not more than 3.6 m above the roof or the masonry wall of which they form a part.
Application 2: 
This also applies to bracing for rectangular masonry or concrete chimneys that are not more than 12 m in height and serve fireplaces or appliances having a combined total rated heat output of 120 kW or less, in buildings to which Part 6 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 6], as stated in Sentence 6.3.1.2.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To expand the application of Subsection 4.3.2., which provides design criteria for plain and reinforced masonry, to include chimneys to which Part 9 applies.
