Application
Application 1: 
Continuous lumber or panel-type roof sheathing, in wood-frame constructions to which Section 9.23. applies [see Sentence 9.23.1.1.(1) for application of Section 9.23.].
Exceptions: 
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.26.9.1.(1), which applies to wood shingled roofing,
  • Sentence 9.26.13.2.(1), which applies to sheet metal roofing,
  • Sentence 9.26.14.1.(1), which applies to glass reinforced polyester roofing, and
  • Sentence 9.26.17.1.(1), which applies to concrete roof tiles.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that roof sheathing will not be installed or that inappropriate roof sheathing will be installed, which could lead to:
  • the structure being unable to distribute the roof loads, which could lead to an inability to resist expected gravity and lateral loads, which could lead to the excessive deflection or failure of the structural system, or
  • insufficient support of the roofing material, which could lead to the excessive deflection or failure of the roofing material.
This is to limit the probability of compromised structural integrity, which could lead to:
  • the structural collapse of wood-frame construction, or
  • precipitation ingress, which could lead to the deterioration of the roof or elements protected by the roof, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the roof or elements protected by the roof.
This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
