Application
Application 1:
Location of sheet and panel-type materials, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where such materials:
  • have an air leakage characteristic less than 0.1 L/(s•m2) at 75 Pa,
  • have a water vapour permeance less than 60 ng/(Pa•s•m2), and
  • are installed in a building assembly that is required to be insulated (see Article 9.25.2.1.).
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 9.25.1.2.(3), which applies to wood-based sheathing materials conforming with Article 9.23.16.2. and not more than 12.5 mm thick, and
  • Sentences 9.25.1.2.(4) and 9.25.1.2.(5), which apply in cases that are beyond the application of Article 9.25.1.2. and depend on:
    • the temperature differential across the assembly over the heating season as indicated by the mild climate indicator determined in accordance with Sentence 9.25.1.2.(6),
    • the intended use of the interior space over the heating season, and
    • the capability of the ventilating and air-conditioning systems.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability of inadequate moisture diffusion, venting, or drainage of moisture to the exterior, which could lead to condensation.
This is to limit the probability of deterioration, which could lead to compromised structural integrity of the assembly, or assemblies supported or protected by the environmental separator, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
