Application
Application 1:
Design, construction and installation of self-contained mechanical ventilation systems serving single dwelling units that are supplied with electrical power, in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9].
Application 2:
This also applies to self-contained mechanical ventilation systems serving only one dwelling unit in non-Part 9 buildings where ventilation is provided in accordance with Subsection 6.2.2. [see Sentence 6.2.2.1.(3)].
Exceptions:
except:
  • as stated in Sentence 9.32.3.1.(1), which applies to mechanical ventilation systems designed to comply with CAN/CSA-F326-M, and
  • as specifically described in this Subsection:
    • total ventilation capacity,
    • principal exhaust fan capacity,
    • supplemental exhaust fan capacity,
    • provision of outdoor air for ventilation systems coupled with forced air heating systems,
    • provision of outdoor air for ventilation systems not coupled with forced air heating systems,
    • protection against depressurization,
    • fan ratings,
    • ducts,
    • heat recovery ventilators,

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the performance of mechanical ventilation systems will fall significantly below expectations, which could lead to the inadequate control of relative humidity, which could lead to condensation, which could lead to the deterioration of building elements, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
