Application 1: 
Frequency of testing of doors forming part of a means of egress in buildings.
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in:
  • Sentence 2.7.2.1.(2), which applies to revolving doors,
  • Sentence 2.7.2.1.(3), which applies to sliding doors required to swing on a vertical axis, and
  • Sentence 2.7.2.1.(4), which applies to doors equipped with electromagnetic locks.
Application 2: 
This also applies to the testing of doors in the path of exit travel of vestibules or stair shafts that are pressurized as a means of smoke control, in high buildings as defined in Sentence 3.2.6.1.(1) of the National Building Code, to ensure that these doors can be operated when the entire smoke control system is being tested, as stated in Sentence 7.3.1.2.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that doors will not operate properly in an emergency situation, which could lead to
  • delays in evacuation or movement to a safe place in an emergency, which could lead to harm to persons, and
  • emergency responders being delayed or ineffective in carrying out their emergency response operations, which could lead to delays in evacuation or movement to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
