ObjectiveOP1 Fire Protection of the Building or Facility

Application 1: 
High rack storage warehouses with storage heights greater than 13 m, where:
  • conditions exist that must be addressed by design and operational details specific to the hazard, and
  • alternative protection is provided in conformance with Article 1.2.1.1. of Division A.
This applies to short- or long-term indoor storage of the following products, whether raw or waste materials, goods in process, or finished goods:
Exceptions: 
except as exempted in Sentence 3.1.1.4.(1), which applies to
  • the storage and dispensing of Class 2.1 flammable gases at fuel dispensing stations, and
  • facilities operated by manufacturers or distributors [handling or storing more than 1 500 kg, as stated in Appendix A] of Class 2 gases.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt, from the application of Part 3, storage situations where extraordinary conditions exist that must be addressed by design and operational details specific to the hazard, if alternative protection is provided in conformance with Article 1.2.1.1. of Division A
This is to limit the probability that a fire will not be suppressed or controlled, which could lead to the spread of fire, which could lead damage to the building.
