Application
Application 1: 
Minimum distance of stored dangerous goods above floor levels.
This applies to buildings or parts of buildings used for the short- or long-term storage of dangerous goods in packages or containers when stored in single fire compartments in quantities greater than those shown in Table 3.2.7.1., whether raw or waste materials, goods in process, or finished goods.
Exceptions: 
except:
  • Class 2 gases,
  • as exempted in Sentence 3.1.1.4.(1), which applies to:
    • the storage and dispensing of Class 2.1 flammable gases at fuel dispensing stations, and
    • facilities operated by manufacturers or distributors [handling or storing more than 1 500 kg, as stated in Appendix A] of Class 2 gases, and
  • as exempted in Sentence 3.2.1.1.(2), which applies to high rack storage warehouses with storage heights greater than 13 m.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that dangerous goods containers or packaging will sustain water damage in the event of accidental water leakage and accumulation on the floor, which could lead to pile instability or failure of the containers or packages, which could lead to the unwanted release of dangerous goods, which could lead to harm to the public.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that spill control operations will be delayed, which could lead to the spread of dangerous goods, which could lead to harm to the public.
